How long for an ESA claim to go through from sending form?

Last Wednesday I recieved a claim form for ESA as the doctor signed me off for 4 weeks with a sick note, and couldn't carry on claiming JSA.
I rang the DWP for a new ESA claim and was told that a form would be sent to me in the post. I recieved this and posted it to them last Thursday. A week on and I haven't recieved any letters from them yet to say I am now claiming ESA.
Does anyone know how long it takes for a claim for ESA to be processed?

It is usually quite quick for the claim to be started and assessment rate claimed. It is the bit between sending in the lengthy ESA50 form and getting a decision that is taking so long.0

You should phone them to confirm they have recved your ESA1 form. It usually takes a week to "arrive" and then from the date of "arrival" it will take up to 3 weeks to process the new claim.
So 4 weeks in total.0
