Flogas and no option to switch

Options
New to the site and forum so forgive me if this has been covered before. I am a Flogas customer, in a village in Anglesey, north Wales. We have no mains gas, just gas that's piped from a collection of Flogas tanks within the village. These tanks are serviced and filled by lorries. I am at my wit's end with Flogas, if you think YOUR gas is expensive try using LPG, it's off the scale! And it still seems to be going up continuously, price rise after price rise. Yet as I see it, I haven't got the option to switch and find a cheaper supplier, given that I'm not on mains gas and the only gas I can get supplied to my house is LPG by Flogas. They have me, and everyone in the village, and countless other villages in the region, over a barrel. So you can imagine that it's DOUBLY frustrating to receive the by now bi-annual letter explaining how wholesale prices have gone up and how they've "done their best to absorb the increase" but now "have no choice but to pass on the cost to you, the customer", and there's not a thing I can do abut it, unlike people who can switch. Or is there? Has anyone else been in the same situation and managed to do something about it, save for going through the huge rigmarole of switching to oil, which is just as expensive? Somebody has suggested the whole community clubs together in order to 'persuade' another supplier to take over the tanks instead of Flogas, but would another supplier's prices be so cheap as to render the trouble, time and inconvenience involved worth it? I would be grateful for any feedback/ideas, or otherwise confirmation that nothing can be done but absorb the blows.

Have you phoned up other LPG providers like Calor to see if they can service your area?

OP, there is a dedicated thread for LPG customers somewhere on here, it will be very useful for you.

We were also with Flogas until a few months ago, paying 65p a litre and now we're paying 45p with another firm. We had our own tank so it's a bit different for us, but the suggestion about getting together a community thing sounds the way forward for you. I suppose it depends on your contract with Flogas, but it's possible that you will find other options.

I'm just off out and don't have my glasses on so can't be much use at the mo, but didn't want to read and run. Have a look for the LPG thread.

Unfortunatly it sounds like you are on whats known as a metered estate.
Sometimes with Flogas you can achieve a very small discount if you fight with them enough.
Unfortunatly if anyone signs a contract with them thats also on your metered estare then you are all tied in.
Im sorry to say but you are stuffed, if i were you i would investigate alternative heating sources.
  • Thank you for your time and responses. As disappointing as the information you supplied me is, it wasn't entirely unexpected. I guess the only way forward is a community solution, which doesn't exactly fill me with anticipation if I'm honest!

Ryune - yes I have contacted Calor. They are able supply LPG marginally cheaper but they also said, along the lines of the other replies, that there would have to be a community consensus to get them to take over the supply, and Calor admitted that would take a lot of work and effort to do so on my behalf. :(
