If you have a standard SOLE AGENCY contract, this does not prevent you from advertising privately with an internet service, your own for sale sign or newspaper advertising.

Providing the internet service you choose conducts no agency work for you, you will not owe your agent any commission if you sell privately - the key is to choose a professional online private sale service as there are numerous smaller operators who have set up with little knowledge of the legalities and you are liable to run into difficulty if you don't go with an established company that knows what it's doing.

Type 'sell house' into Google for the leading contenders and ignore the sponsored ads.
  • I've just done the same. I'm not sure the whole idea of going it alone has taken off yet but the savings could be quite good. I've added mine to http://www.thehousesale.co.uk which seems like one of the better ones. It was free because I think they are quite new. I also looked at The Little House co who have been doing it a lot longer but I don't think the Design / Page for your House is quite as good and it's £89. I'll report back on any success.
