clicking noise with the boiler

Hi we are on LPG gas.
We have a condensing boiler, Worcester green star.
A few weeks ago it started clicking when it was trying to fire up.
I don't think it does it first thing in the morning-when it first fires up..I can't remember hearing it.
It tends to be when the heating has been on for a while, and it tries to fire up again when the temp drops.
We had the boiler serviced a few weeks ago, and the guy said the boiler all tested ok. No problem.
As it is an intermittent problem ,it ofcourse did not do it while he was here. He is going to come back when he can.
Anybody any suggestions as to what it might be. OH fitted a new room thermo today in case it was tied up with that-it wasn't as it still clicks.

Intermittent fault could indicate a problem with electronics.

;) It could just be slightly delayed ignition and what you hear is the spark from the igniter, possibly taking a little longer to ignite due to latent heat affecting the combustion mix or could possibly have been disturbed slightly during servicing ;)

It could also just be the expansion/contraction of metals during the process of refiring ;)

  • When it starts clicking it can take up to 1/2 hour to stop clicking and carry on.
Before the service OH had heard it the once.
I think it is happening more often now as I have heard it a few times.
It's like if you have an uptodate gas cooker (might just be lpg ones) you turn the knob and you have clicks until the "coupler?" does its bit, and that lights and works..same sort of noise.
I will threaten my man down the phone again......
  • Any further ideas........please....

:) Then its the igniter not cutting off after the flame has been sensed, as the igniter should shut off after the boiler lights and its not getting a signal from the probe correctly, get your man back, could be a poor termination, poor probe location, or a board problem, may need parts replaced so expect that ;)

  • Ok me again, still with the clicking noise.
Now I have noticed it is happening before everything comes on.
Everything should start at 7am...however I am sometimes an early riser, so I come downstairs anytime from 6am onwards, and the thing is clicking then!!!!!!!
The blue light is on, not the green one, as that will not come on until 7am.
The only way I have found to stop it, is to turn it off with the left hand dial (not the reset one) . Leave it for however long , then turn it on. Will this damage the boiler in any way?
I have given up on man who serviced boiler, hopefully another man will ring me today.
