I then get my normal signing in page , password etc , and carry on as normal ................ come to shut down , sign off and get the message " downloading updates for your PC , do not power off or disconnect ..."
Few mins then PC closes down as normal ......... on start up next session ........ off we go again

YOu've got a windows update that is failing to install properly. It's getting downloaded and installe when you switch off and then the install is supposed to finsih when the machine next starts. In your case, it is failing to fully install and is being rolled back.0

As above, a failed update. Try, Start-Contol panel-Auto updates and set to Notify me. Then choose custom installation. Write down the KB numbers and decline any that keep trying and failing to install.0
