I don't think favours are that important at all!
Good for you not having them and having a sweetie table! I love the idea of a sweetie table and much cheaper if you buy in bulk and look out for old jars and bowls in charity shops.
We are not having favours, not a traditional wedding cake or a desert after our hog roast! I wanted a sweetie table. We went down the route of having everything local and Welsh and that ruled out a sweetie table! I was devastated until until this local company were in the paper making Aberffraw Biscuits based on a Welsh legend. They are like shortbread in the shape of scallop shell and we got in with a local crisp maker for 'jones o'gymru' crisps so we are much happier now as they will be a desert and look like a favour. One stone, two birds, Wham!0 -
Nope you don't need favours.
Went to a wedding last year and the bride made an announcement that rather than spend money on favours she had made a donation to a charity close to her heart - and not one person disagreed with her decision2014 Target;

Off the top of my head, some examples of wedding favours I've received have been:
Shot glass (left it on the table)
Sugared almonds (left them on the table)
A disposable camera (got commandeered by the nearby children, sure the photos were awful)
A packet of sunflower seeds (left them on the table)
Alcohol (drank it)
I really don't think they're worth the bother or the money. I've never been impressed enough with one to tell people about it. I'm not even sure what people intend them to be *for*.
We came close, I suppose, in that we used some Xmas bauble name card holders, and quite a few of our guests took them home and hung them on the tree. The restaurant kept the rest and still use them from time to time - it's our favourite restaurant so we're happy with that!
i say don't waste your time or money0 -
No, you don't have to have them if you don't want to. In my experience lots of people don't take them home - I used to work in a hotel that did lots of weddings and would say about 60-70% of the favours were left at the end of the night. The ones that seem to work best are the charity donation (I think some charities may also let you buy badges as part of that if you'd want people to have a 'thing') or anything personalised.
We are using our wedding cake as the favours for people to take at the end of the night, as in my experience lots of people do want to take a bit of cake home. I'm going to ask the caterers to package it in in those stripy sweet-shop paper bags, and will also make home-made tea tags with our initials and wedding date. I may make the tea bags too but haven't decided yet - if not we'll use Yorkshire Tea as getting married in Yorkshire."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
I didn't know what favours were till a few weeks ago. ok I am over 50 but it must be a relatively new thing (American ? along with baby showers etc maybe, I don't know). Just don't bother, nobody will care. The important thing is that everyone enjoys the day. I hope you have a lovely wedding day.0
