BoS 2nd Vantage account

Options
I'm trying to apply for a second Bank of Scotland Current Account (to then upgrade to Vantage) but it's saying on the website that they can't offer me a second one? Anybody had this problem?

I already have 3 Lloyds Vantage filled up. Apart from the BoS Vantage account that shows up on the webpage, it shows a Halifax current account and a Halifax credit card. This is a bummer as my money is starting to overflow from accounts now and I need to put it somewhere - I thought I could stash another £10k in two £5k BoS Vantage accounts but it's not looking good...

Thanks for your help!

Did mine over the phone. It took 2 days to open 2 extra accounts as only 1 can be opened in a 24 hr period.

Jeeeeesus! It took me FOREVER to set that up! First there was a 15 min wait to speak to the right person, then it took another 15 minutes because the person had to go through all the FSCS stuff, options available etc (even though I said I knew what I wanted!). To be fair the chaps I spoke to were good and professional but the TIME it took!! How much money do you think they make from a 30min call? Surely it's just a money-making tactic...

What number did you call? They only make money if you call them on a wrong number. Plenty of calling plans with 0845 included, or use one of the non-08 numbers for BOS.
  • It started 08457.. so that doesn't charge?

It doesn't if you have it in an inclusive plan. If you haven't, you are paying extra for it. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/0870-say-no

I'm sure I opened all 3 of my BoS accounts using an 0800 number, thus it only cost them money.

I would imagine it's a legal requirement to read T&Cs and be seen (or rather heard) to give you your options. Although I don't suppose they mind too much on a business rate number!

When I opened my BOS Vantage accounts (about three months ago), I used:

    - 0500 800 500

each time. Weirdly, on one of the three occasions I used it, I got put through to Halifax rather than BOS, but they were happy to put me through to BOS anyway. (0500 numbers are freephone I think.)

Another number I have for BOS (although I don't believe I tried) is:

    - 0131 317 5252

which presumably counts as a regular geographical number for free minutes if you have some monthly quota or similar phone package.

If you or anyone else gives either of these a try, I'd be interested to see if they still work.
  • I opened three online just don't log in and the applications when processed with be linked to your Halifax account if you have one. They also sent me an email to say the accounts were open.

    Hi

I tried opening an account last month, and ran into a number of problems. The long and short of it was that they opened an account for me, and let me know the sort code and account number, but later sent me a mail asking me for identification. When I took the ID docs to a Halifax branch as directed by them (I live in London, so no BoS branch here), and got them faxed across to their fax number, they came back with a statement that these accounts could only be opened at BoS branches.

What do you suggest I do now? I have had a credit check that they have done, have actually been accepted for the account, and then turned down. Am obviously cross with them, but the best way I can pay back I guess, is by getting three accounts opened and loading them up with near £5k balances !!!
