Old gift vouchers with no expiry - refused in store!

Hi all,
As the title suggests I have 250.00 of paper gift vouchers for Evans Cycles, they are in 20 and 10 denominations. I got them as a present a few years ago now but at the time wasn't really in to anything to do with cycling so put them away, I am now moving an found these untouched in the bottom of a drawer.
I went down to my local Evans store and was intending to buy a new bike with them but the staff advised these were old vouchers and were no longer accepted, they were pretty unhelpful and offered no help other than to write in to head office. The vouchers have no expiry date shown and no terms and conditions printed on them, the only words on them state only " Valid in any of the Evans stores or by post through mail order. Not redeemable for cash"
Do they have to accept them in store or at least exchange them for current vouchers? Its a fair bit of money so I would like to take the issue further but not sure how to!
Thanks in advance
Nick

But you told us they said write to head office.
What are you unsure about?

Is is these?Receipt style gift vouchers
Do you already have a receipt style gift voucher from Evans Cycles? You can swap this for a new card or e-gift voucher simply by visiting a store, or calling our contact centre. This way you protect the balance of your voucher for future use, and you will now be able to use it online.
Don’t worry though, we will continue to accept the old style gift vouchers in our stores and through our contact centre until they expire. Please note that the old style ‘receipt’ gift vouchers are not redeemable online.

They are older than the ones in the link posted. I am unsure what my rights are if any and I took the contact head office answer as the easiest thing to say to get me out of the store. I would like to know if its necessary to write in or if they should be accepting them in store.0

I would like to know if its necessary to write in
As they are not taking them in the store then it seems this should be your next step. Either that or, if you don't want the hassle you may have write off the £250.or if they should be accepting them in store.
If you write to head office you will get the answer to that question

It's a possibility that the old gift vouchers were easily duplicated by fraudsters so that could be why they were told not to accept them, and hence why they changed them.0

Irrespective, without an expiry date they'd be on dodgy grounds to consider them no longer valid as a form of payment0
