It means what it says, two machines on your local network have the same IP address. Someone has likely configured a static IP address for something on your network rather than letting the router assign them using DHCP, and it's been given the same address as something the router has assigned.

If two machines on the network have the same IP address it could cause things to stop working. It would be like two houses on the same street having the same number and postcode. The postman would send things to the wrong place.

reset the network adapter on the machine in question, should allow the allocation of a new IP address for it

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

You could also try the following in a command prompt (aka DOS):

    ipconfig /release

    then:

    ipconfig /renew

to see if a new IP Address is obtained which doesn't conflict with the other one.
  • What devices do you have on your network? I'm assuming a PC\Laptop (or multiple) and a wireless printer?

Assuming all devices are configured by DHCP (standard setup) then a simple reboot of all devices should clear this, otherwise on all PC's where you can get a command prompt (Go to start, Run and then type in cmd and enter) as Ximian said and run the upconfig commands should resolve this
