Account upgrade credit check?

I'm planning on opening a few new bank accounts and getting a credit card or two to get as much cash-back and interest as possible. I know I need to spread this out so there are not too many searches on my credit file all at once.
My question is would upgrading an existing Nationwide FlexAccount to FlexDirect (for the 5% interest) trigger a search?

From my experience no. I upgraded from cash account to flex plus and they did not search, account was opened in 2008 though0

I think if you 'upgrade' within the same bank or building society they don't do the checks.0
