Barclaycard Limit

Had a Barclaycard for 5 years and have never used it properly ..ie paying the bill every month off in full. but since Ive been reading this forum Ive been paying it off in full for 6 months.
Had the limit reduced 8 moths ago from 5000 to 4140..
Rang them up the other day and asked about having the limit put back to 5000 again and they stuck it up to 5400
So it does work paying in full. Been spending between 1000-2500 each month on the card I'd say.
Does anybody know if they would continue to keep increasing the limit if I requested it and how often would I be able to do this.?

How often is it advisable to ask for credit limit increases?0

Difficult one, depends upon your credit history and payments to them. But I'd think give it at least six months.
But if you have say gone from £3K with a balance of virtually your limit to say £5K and want another increase again because you are near your limit I'd be surprised if they'd agree.
But say you have a £3K limit and spending up to it each month and paying it off in full they would agree. Having said that they would of potentially upped it automatically themselves without you requesting it.Cheers

I want to get this limit as high as possible. I.ll pay it off each month, which is what I'm doing now.0

I can't get BC to increase my limit from when I originally got the card over 18months ago of £260.
I'm now on my 3rd attempt to get them to increase it but it looks likely that they're going to turn me down again as I don't use it regularly.
I use my debit card for day to day purchases as I have enough cash to cover it in my current account. I got the card in the first place for buying higher value items especially on-line purchases but so far I can't because the limit is lower than most of the items I want to buy. Whenever I have I do make a purchase with the card I always pay off the bill before the end of the month.
I haven't even asked for a huge limit, only £1000, one which I can pay off quite easily but still they refuse. :mad:0 -
Reaper2007, put a complaint through saying that you want your limit manually reviewed. That should make them put it up.0

Some banks won't increase the limit until there is a history of usage on the account.
One way to get the limit increased is to start using the card & paying it off in full. Their computer will eventually decide that your limit is too low because you can afford to pay off your full balance each month, which is the last thing they want! This assumes that the rest of your credit history is ok.0 -

I have got Barclaycard for a bout a year now. Intially they gave me a credit limit of £3500 and then they reduced it to £2990 in February.
I have recently tried to increase my limit but the answere was NO.
I have also complained and then recived a letter from Customer Relations saying the same NO.
I have never missed any payment and always paid much more than the minimum payment. I have defaults or CCJs.

Most companies only allow you to increase your credit limit every six months.
Small credit limit increases ( ie; just a couple of hundred pounds) usually are approved by automated systems. As Chris2000 said, you can make this happen by paying off the card in full every month.
However, you need to keep in mind that most companies periodically will have a look at your central credit file.
If you recently have increased your overdraft, acquired a significantly higher limit on another card or simply have taken out extra credit elsewhere, it is highly unlikely that you would be offered a credit limit increase.
Also taking out cash on your credit card or requesting balance transfers into your bank account will work against you as it will look as if you have a cash flow problem.
Avoid any of those things and there should be no reason you are refused a higher limit/
