Scottish Power

  • I have read this thread with interest, as I have just come off the phone after seeing red also. Scottishpower work out that since joining them last october my direct debit payments are not enough to cover my usage, and I now owe them £170. Considering one of their slogans is 'cheaper than british Gas' I am now faced with the fact it costs me £17 more a month to use them. Not because of the bill for £170. But because they gave me my dual fuel usage in value and I worked it out. Also have had a nightmare over online billing/meter readings. Access to their site invariably denied due to maintenance work. Will be back on the price comparison thingy now. Very disgruntled with them.

SP doorstep salesman called last week and tried to tell me he was cheaper than Powergen, but his figures didn't include VAT and mine (printout from Uswitch) did. You have to be extremely carefull in any workings out.

  • Interesting development on my earlier post, please any other sp or xsp customers tell me if this happened to you. I cannot get through on their phone number, I am charged for the call (not as much as some thanks to 18866 thanks martin) a voice says unavailable and I am immediatly cut off. When I login to my account online it says I can't access it and to phone the number mentioned previously which is as you know is no use whatsoever. I have emailed as a last resort but it is frustrating not to have meter readings and units used etc to check for myself. Also I have discovered they have put me on premium plus when I joined up for standard. Thank goodness I keep emails. So people beware. Terrible customer service and at the moment £11.50 a month more than british gas for me. Thats £138 annualy more.

Well i am still trying to get my £500 out of Scottish Power as it was the settlement figure when i left them to go to Powergen. Last weeks excuse was they hadnt received the final meter readings from Powergen. (Although Powergen said they were sent). Today their excuse was they had an email from me yesterday asking if i could come back. Come back my backside, i would rather have a coal fire in the one room and use candles for lighting than go back to them. I am waiting for them to ring me (been there, done that, 5 times out of 10 they dont bother ringing me back.) I will leave it a bit longer and phone Powergen to check no one has tried to taken over my account or to try and stop them if i do.

  • Just to be fair to scottishpower I did discover why I couldnt login, when they asked me to up my direct debit payment by £40. I cancelled my direct debit till I spoke to somone, this made me a normal customer apparently not an online one, hence why I couldnt get through. Finally spoke to somone and basically they can't tell me why, but said to bear in mind all gas prices went up since I left british Gas so I would have had to pay more there as well. Which again is a valid point. However does anyone know if I can get a check done on this, as I have no head for figures and £45 a month dual fuel dd still seems extortionate. Has it really gone up that much? I was paying £33 before and was in credit when I switched, this was October so could have been because winter bills werent in yet.
  • Ok now I have discovered whats been going on and this is a warning if you are changing suppliers. I actually wasn't paying scottishpower for two months but british gas. When I came over to scottishpower I got the moneyback plus some from british gas only I didnt realise this, I just thought being on dd scheme I had just over paid. Therefore when I started paying dd to scottishpower I was already in arrears by two months, then my payments where lower than my usage and it all snowballed untill I now have £160 arrears. So make sure when you switch you know who is supplying you when and check when you are finally over to your new supplier if you owe them. Better than getting a shock months down the line.
