v.me by VISA

Leaving aside their owner, the companies that seem to offer Paypal are usually smaller ones, presumably in a quest to avoid credit card charges.
The question then is whether those smaller companies can actually afford to deploy, and run, v.me alongside Paypal. VISA have obviously investigated this in detail and found that it's worth doing. Time will tell.
I like the idea of having to remember just one email address and password and then be able to pay with any of my credit cards. It would help if I can see there and then what my limit vs my existing spend is, but it's not essential. Another great feature would be to be able to spread your payment across two or more cards (e.g. if your purchase exceeds the limit of any one of your cards but you can easily fund it by using more than one card).
But I can see all sorts of issues with people doing stupid things like using just one email address and password for everything, which will then duly get hacked/stolen. And an entire new phishing industry, which will blossom due to the naivity of the recipients - "Dear valued v.me customer"...........0 -
I did not claim to speak for anyone else. Nor did I assert that the service was pointless. Solely that in my opinion a far better explanation of the claimed benefits was required.
The "benefits" are explained in the post you made - I don't really see what else needs explaining?
You didn't specifically claim those things no, but dismissing the "benefits" point-by-point gave me the impression that's what you meant. Unless you genuinely couldn't comprehend how it benefits other people - in which case:
1. It's easier to type out an email address and password than it is to fill out your card number, expiry date, CCV number and (in my case) billing address. Particularly if your card isn't sitting right in front of you at that specific moment in time.
2. It doesn't have to be a "place where you feel unsafe" to remove your card. You could either not have your card, or as above, not want to type in all the details.
3. I doubt you do. As others have said I'd imagine it runs like Verified by Visa.
4. Yes it does. But they are still all in one place and some people like that.
As to people questioning why people would use paypal on a major retailers site - why not? Tying back to the points I made above, if you use paypal then all your cards are in one place and accessible instantly anywhere with an internet connection with a simple email and password. I don't remember the site, but I've also used it before to pay by credit card without having to pay a credit card surcharge.0 -

Because Paypal has a bad reputation?
Because people don't have, and don't want, a Paypal account?0 -
Paypal has been useful for buying things from Chinese websites (where I wouldn't really want to hand over my card details), and for ad-hoc person-to-person transfers (e.g. selling stuff on eBay), but otherwise I can't see the advantage.
The Paypal TV advert says Paypal will securely store all your card details in one place... but my wallet serves exactly the same purpose!0 -
The only benefit to my mind is that the retailer has no CC number in order to help themselves as a CNP transaction with information previously provided.
Previously a 'virtual' one-time use CC number (generated on the fly) but linked to your main card number provided some security but was hated by merchants for the same reason v.me is being promoted.
I see it dying a death in a year or two.0 -

1) That makes no sense. The reason for not using paypal on a site that takes paypal cannot be the site doesn't accept paypal - it does...
2) Not with most people it doesn't.
3) Lot's of people have paypal accounts - random people not having one shouldn't have any effect on those that do.0 -

do you find it difficult to read?
How can I pay with Paypal at a retailer that doesn't accept Paypal?
I do have a Paypal account, btw. And I do think their reputation is pretty low, regardless of the number of customers who use them.0 -

No I do not.
You can't... That was never the question though, it was just a bizarre alteration you chose to make. I think it goes without saying that in a discussion over why consumers would choose not to use paypal on a major retailers site, it only applies to retailers that accept paypal. I really didn't think that needed to be spelled out.
Congratulations. If their reputation was actually low then I doubt they would have 140 million active accounts. It most certainly does have a poor reputation with many people, but why should that bother the majority who have had no problems with them? That is after all who we are talking about - the general public, not you specifically.0 -
