Three's text-to-speech robot

Three's website explains that
You can send text messages to other mobile phones or landlines. Some landline phones display text messages as they would [be displayed] on a mobile phone, but [we can't tell whether the phone you are sending to can do this, and therefore we assume that your message is] for [one of] those that don't [and] we convert your text message into a voice message so that it can be listened to.

[words in brackets added by me to make it clearer - at least to me!]

I've emailed Three to ask if I can turn this off. Our landline phone does display texts, and it's convenient for them to be visible instead of read by Three's (very clever) robot.
Has any forum member any knowledge of why Three do this, or how I might turn it off?
I guess that we're one of a small and diminishing number of households that like and use BT Text. (And we have the legacy offering of 200 outgoing texts a month included in our Anytime plan.) BT already has a robot (possibly the same robot as Three are using?) that converts SMS to voice, unless you register for BT text. So I don't think Three need to bother.

Perhaps you misunderstand the technology, if the recieving phone line can accept the text message then it will be displayed otherwise it's in a voice format. Unless you have tried it and get both.

    I have tried it.
From my Vodafone-branded-ASDA phone, texts to our landline arrive as texts. From my Three phone, they arrive as a phone call, and a robot voice reads the message.
Hence my interpretation above of the information on Three's website.

BT,s current anytime call plan £7 a month includes 200 outgoing texts from landline if you have appropriate phone. :D
