Can any one recommend one for use on an iMac. Had been using Money MS 2000 on old Windows PC.

    Thanks
  • Nice approach for money saving. But I think that excel sheets are pretty older version tactics for this. Today the market is flooding with lots of tools both online and offline (inpremises). Rather than deploying the ideas in excel sheets, I think that it will be much better to have it deployed on certain tools.

Actually I was looking out for a better finance management in my new start up and coincidentally I came across this post. Thanks for the segmentation that you defined over here. Got some sort of relevant information in terms of financial management strategy.

If all you want to do is track your spending you could try Money by Jumsoft, or Moneywiz by Silverwiz, both available on the Mac App Store, and both have iOS versions too.

They don't tap into your bank account to automatically download statements though - not sure if you need that.

I used one or other of these apps for about three years but ultimately they weren't giving me peace of mind or helping me manage our money - just telling us how we'd spent it afterwards. In the end after much research and humming and hawing I spent $54 on YNAB - You Need A Budget - it's a combination of spending tracker and budget planner, with the emphasis on budget planning.

Single best software purchase I've *ever* made. A bit pricey but absolutely worth it's weight in gold for simplifying the old-school 'envelope' budgeting system.

I think I have found something that works sort of the same as how quicken did and this video helps explain it. I will have to see if I can get a voucher or something to get the software cheaper after the trial if I can set it up so it works how I hope it will.

Just posting this in case it is helpful for anyone else.

If you're still after a discount and missed the Sale over New Year, my 'refer-a-friend' link should get you $6 off at their website, they sent it to me after I purchased, everyone gets one.
  • Hey, Nice question... I'm keeping track of all expenses in one excel sheet as well as in a notebook. And normally I plan budget of every month and did shopping according to that budget. This way i manage my expenses and complete the target. This is very much useful for me in money saving.

Another vote for Microsoft Money but I'm interested to read about the alternatives as our last computer crashed and lost two month's worth of transactions on Microsoft Money. My husband thought the world had ended!

We do keep paper budgets as well but it's so much easier to see a snapshot of accounts on Microsoft Money and it's a fantastic motivator for saving and paying off our mortgage.

I have been using MS Money for several years too but now trying to find an alternative as it's getting a bit creaky. I've tried a few ( Ontrees and Money Dashboard) but not quite what I'm looking for. I have also looked at MoneyMojo.co.uk which, interestingly, let's you import all your data from Money. Xero Personal looked quite but they're closing down their personal finance app-what I really want is a Mint.com for the Uk!

I used to use MS Money but found it unstable and slow. I now have a spresdsheet set up in Google Drive that I can access from my phone when out and about so I can record transactions in real time if I want. It is a series of worksheets and is basically a double-entry system.

I don't keep receipts except for big stuff that I might need to take back.
  • Last week I tried the birdy, Microsoft Money software both are good enough. Thanks everyone. I got new thing here.
