shop benefits

I got the circular email this morning from ebay about using shop listings and I wondered what 'hidden ' benefits there are, if any.
I don't really sell enough to make it worthwhile but I have a new freelance career that means I will be away for a 2 - 3 days at a stretch on occasions and at the moment I have to end all my listings and restart when I get back . I know with a shop I can hide my listings and there is less chance of anyone buying. Apart from that and the free listings (which are a great deal more than I cna possibly cope with) are there any other benefits with a shop?
In the free business listing we had recently I only managed to get about 165 items uploaded, and my sales have been incredible, but I am bored rigid with wrapping things, so that is another reason I am hesitating with the shop idea in case I am tempted to list more than I am happy to wrap.
I am shockingly bad at making decisions, and just don't know what to do.

Opening a shop was the best thing I ever did, but as I make my own items, the GTC are a blessing as I cans stick stock at 1000 and forget about it. The continuing sales history works on my high selling items and they do well in best match.
Holiday is great, I use it occasionally round this time of the year as you can knock it off for an hour or twoto get caught up and have a breather.0 -

It is mainly the holiday settings I want , it is hard when you need to go away to remember that you need to cancel 20 active listings- and if they decide to start charging for ending BINs early then I would be stuck.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you mainly want holiday settings then go for a shop. We have 3 anchors and 2 featured over our ids and they are expensive but with the free listings, dedicated CS and holiday settings they are worth it. And SMP is free?.....I say that, I haven't checked in a while

I have read all the bumph about shops in the eBay FAQ and still have a question. It says that all my items will be in my shop, does that mean they are all going to come up in the Best Match search?
I had a shop many years ago but then shop listings were sort of separate, so I had to put up some non shop listings to drive people to my shop, is that no longer the case.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. All your shop items appear in search, you can no longer have shop only items.0

Thank you, that is reassuring. I thought that was the case as there was nothing to suggest otherwise in the small print.
I assume therefore that everything automatically goes into my shop which seems better than it was years ago.

Be aware that even if you shop is on holiday, people who have your items in their watch list, or have links to your items, can still buy, and you can guarantee they won't read the "This sellers is away" message.0 -

True, but a small risk. Not happened to me in the 2.5 years I've had a shop yet.0 -
I think my shop is worth it for the holiday settings and the fact I have a number on lines I don't want to drop down rankings. By having listings which are on a rolling setting, they stay at the top of the searches.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Sorry to post on an old thread, but I wanted to say how liberating I have found my shop. I used to worry if I was offered work or went on a trip as I would need to either close everything, or risk sales being a day late in despatch. Now all I do is turn on my shop listings and leave it. I did a last minute booking for a hotel package New years Eve (I had had a good ebay month and could afford to take the whole fmaily) and just turned the holiday settings on and didn't need to worry.
Cost wise I think a shop is more expensive for me as my sales have only gone up a little bit, but I am able to list odds and ends of old stock without worrying about the 40p listing fee. Some of it has even surprised me by selling!
I'm planning on keeping this going now, even through the summer where I traditionally take whole months off to holiday.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
