Help finding VIN number on my Clio

Hi all

Sorry to sound silly, but I'm looking for the VIN number on my Renault Clio x reg (98-2001 modal).

I've found the VIN on a sticker in the driver side door, but the middle part is worn away so can't read the whole number.

I've looked on the windscreen and the engine. I've heard there's always a ViN on a metal plate somewhere, but can't find the VIN anywhere else.

Also, assuming there is another VIN number somewhere, if I'm getting a VIC check done, will it matter that one of my VIN numbers is illegible? I.e. Will they need to be able to check ALL my ViN numbers? Don't want to pay £40 odd to find out they can't give me the certificate because not ALL VIN numbers are legible.

Apart from the sticker on the B post it will be at the bottom of the windscreen on the near side. You read it by standing outside of the car and looking down. It's the testers job to find the VIN numbers and with large rebuilds, one or other may have been left off or destroyed. Never had a problem yet with a VIC.

It should either be on the passenger side at the bottom of the windscreen, or there should be a bit of carpet near the driver's seat which you can lift up and find it under there.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

I do have the logbook but I wanted to check the logbook against the VIN number/s on the car. And can't find the handbook for the life of me.

I checked the windscreen. There is some writing there but it's not the VIN number.

Haven't checked the drivers side carpet so will check there next. Thanks

As suggested above, if it's not visible in the windscreen (not sure when that came in), next to driver's seat there will be a split in the carpet which will allow you to lift up a small section. The VIN will be stamped into the chassis there. If it isn't, WORRY!
  • depending on year, the vin is usually stamped on driver side strut tower top, door pillar plate or VIN plate on the front valance, plastic winged clio's also have a card with the vin in the wing bolt locations under the bonnet, some early clio's had the vin stamped in the chassis in on the driver side floor plan/sill under the carpet, some clios had a vin sticker under the gear knob gaiter cowling.
