Hi, we have just swapped our insurance company and hubby wants to just cancel the direct debit, but I think it's best to call them and tell them so they do not try and take it out at the start of the new policy year. It does state on renewal that if they do not hear from us then they will take monthly payment.

    Thanks

I think you know best ;)

The bank don't inform them. You must do that. They wont know other wise.

We definitely get told when a DD is cancelled ;)

Yup, was a little bit surprised when the opposite was said upthread, as originators are informed through AUDDIS when a DD instruction is cancelled. The main issue is that it does not actually affect the underlying contract in any way, so that notification isn't "I want to cancel the service", it's "I've stopped paying for the service".

Well yes of course you would, but this is a notification to you that the direct debit will not be paid this time.

Its not a notification that the customer wants to cancel the whole arrangement.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • It depends on the type of direct debit. I always cancel mine with the Bank (Sharkleys) and the company. Just to be sure.
