Not only that, but the camera wasn't broken in the first place - the OP just needed to update the firmware - I somehow suspect the OP hasn't returned the £30 to Amazon and apoligised, but will hold onto it.
Except the camera was broken. Amazon acknowledged this and met their obligations under the SoGA by providing a part refund. At this point Amazon could have arranged a courier to collect the faulty item. They chose not to do this, and left it with the OP.
OP has subsequently repaired the faulty item themselves. This is no different to a consumer (for example) buying a mug, the handle falls off, retailer refunds but doesn't want the mug back, consumer glues the handle back on and continues using it.0 -

I think you're confusing a physical/manufacturing fault with a software update, which is what actually "fixed" the "problem".
In IT these are quite common, mainly when the user updates their computer to a new operating system, then plugs their device in and it no longer functions due to Microsoft.
So, the manufacturer has to produce a firmware update to get the device working correctly with Microsofts latest release.
The device is not faulty. It would still work if other (outside) systems had not changed.

So given the makers site(hosting the firmwares) was gone
How would you 'fix' it?
Either I would google the firmware (or even just google the issue) and see what came back, or I would do exactly what the OP did.
Normally if something goes wrong with a product, before I start posting on websites looking for compensation, or complaining to the seller/manufacturer, I'll actually take a few seconds to google the issue and see what useful information I can find.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

I know somebody else who needed the firmware for theirs(for some feature) and it wasnt out there
luckily another friend had the firmware on their PC0
