Amazon returns, again

    I think you're confusing a physical/manufacturing fault with a software update, which is what actually "fixed" the "problem".
    In IT these are quite common, mainly when the user updates their computer to a new operating system, then plugs their device in and it no longer functions due to Microsoft.
    So, the manufacturer has to produce a firmware update to get the device working correctly with Microsofts latest release.
    The device is not faulty. It would still work if other (outside) systems had not changed.

    The mug was still intact. Someone had put sugar in the tea.

    Either I would google the firmware (or even just google the issue) and see what came back, or I would do exactly what the OP did.

    Normally if something goes wrong with a product, before I start posting on websites looking for compensation, or complaining to the seller/manufacturer, I'll actually take a few seconds to google the issue and see what useful information I can find.

    Thats the thing
    I know somebody else who needed the firmware for theirs(for some feature) and it wasnt out there
    luckily another friend had the firmware on their PC
