Does anyone know of a company that print little flash cards?

Hi

I would like to print my own flash cards (for teaching children)

I want them to look professional (not just printed on a4, and cut up :P )

Does anyone know of a company that print cards, I am looking to print 37 individual designs (printing on front and back of the design) around 2 x 2 inches / 3 x 3 inches ish each.

It would be great if they came in a little box to go with it, and an extra bonus if I can print the design on the box!

any suggestions???

THANKS

Do you just want one set? I think it is going to be very expensive to do this for a single set, and printing front and back will make it even more difficult. Would the cards be about the same size as business cards - that would be your best bet for finding a box to fit. Or I wonder if a company that makes wedding invitations might have something.

If you only want one set I'd say you would be much better off making them yourself using a laser printer and some nice card, and you can buy a small guillotine (or similar) to cut them neatly.

Going rate for printing ID cards is about £2.50 a card, so taking that as a guide you're probably looking at around £100 at least.

Go to your local printer - not a high street one, the kind you find on the local light industrial estate - and they'll give you the best advice.

As well as cookie's suggestion of a local printer I would be inclined to contact an online printing company such as Vistaprint to see if they can meet your requirements at a reasonable cost - they might not, but it's worth a try.
  • Thanks everyone :D

tyllwyd - I will need 2/3 sets to start with, and if they are popular, I may need more to sell.

Good idea about a business card box.

Cookie - Eeeek! that sounds expensive! I will try my local printers :)

agrinnall - Good idea, I will contact vistaprint - you never know :D

    Thanks :D

The artwork, is it something you have designed or looking to get designed. Just that the professional look will depend on the artwork.

If you had a laser, could use a nice matt card stock. Box can be easily created, either by printing of on card and then folded or find a nice box and print of on self adhesive clear plastic.

Can buy now flashcards from avery, just print on them your self

I also, for some reason best known to Facebook, get adverts for a company called moo.com who seem to produce rather nice cards, might be worth a look.

What I'm worried about is that most commercial printers will be set up to print a large number of identical cards. So the minimum order might be something like 100 or 500 per design - which means that to go down the commercial route, you might need to start out by ordering 37 x sets of 100 cards or something like that, which is going to be expensive. I've never done it though, so I may be wrong!
  • Neilwoods - yep I have designed it already :) (I'm a graphic designer)
those flash cards from avery looked perfect, unfortunately, they only do paper thin but thank you so much for taking the time to reply :)

Thanks Agrinall, I will look at moo!

tyllwyd - yes you are right, I just tried a few quotes, and vistaprint would be £720.76 Eeeeek!!! which would be £7.20 per set cost price.

    Thanks everyone :D
  • Any commercial jobbing printer should be able to print on card, spray lacquer or film laminate, then chop, but the problem is small print run on litho so you really need a printer who uses digital print, or print it yourself on a laser or at a copy shop and then take it to a commercial print finisher to get it chopped and laminated (which a local printer may outsource to a finisher anyway).

For the box I would suggest buying a clear plastic box about the right size (like a ferrero rocher box) and putting a card inlay in it. Cutting card to a rectangle and folding it to top/front/bottom/back with 4 parallel folds is a lot cheaper than getting it folded and glued into a cardboard box. Again you might be able to print the card insert yourself and get it laminated and folded at a finisher.

Not suggesting this particular company but they appear to offer the sort of services that your print job would need.

the flashcards are about 160gsm, then use 75 micrometer laminating pouches.

Small run prints are always costly for individual prints
