and was told by the sales assistant that she would need to lose a stone in weight for it to fit. She has since lost 20 pounds and the dress does not fit! (too tight on the back)

I appreciate that she bought a dress that didn't fit but she did so on the advice of a bridal expert. I feel she was ill advised

Perhaps the assistant was being diplomatic.

I'm sorry if it seemed nasty, it seems she's got no concept of taking responsibility for her actions here.i can understand she must be cross angry and disappointed.

Spot on, I never thought of that.buying a dress that's too small and dieting to get into it it is putting an awful lot of extra stress on you, at a time when you really don't need it.
I'm sure she'll be the most beautiful bride ever.

Op you post suggests she did'nt actually go back a second time to see if it fit after loosing the weight, if that indeed is the case how can she be sure it did'nt?

It's not difficult to know whether something's too small - I don't need some poncy gown expert to tell me I'm too lardy to fit into a frock. The fact that you can't do it up is usually a give away.

The OP says it's 'too tight on the back' so I assume her cousin can't zip it up.
