I always think you are better keeping borrowing and banking / saving with completely separate companies anyway.CHALLENGES MAR'14:

Who would be the most profitable?
A. Who is spending £2500 per month of which the bank gets around 1% £25.00
B. Who maxes out at £5000 and gets charged 2.5% (£125.00)
Well B obviously in those 2 specific examples. Although equally (all other things being equal) B is higher risk for any potential lender.
But there are plenty of people who repay their cards in full and spend less than the OP who are successfully accepted for new cards by halifax. So it is unlikely that this is the main reason for the decline.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Also reduce the limits on your credit cards that you don't use much (or close them down).
A lot of lenders now look at your exposure to credit. Even if you have exemplary management of your money, you can still be declined.0 -

I have two Halifax credit cards and have always paid them off in full every month, I was not declined when I applied for the clarity second one.0 -

You still have not answered my question, how would the Halifax know whether they were going to pay it off in full or not every month?0 -
we just transferred our smile current account to halifax and all went well. We retain our smile cc with a limit of £4500 so I thought it would be easy to get a halifax cc, I was refused!! unbelievable, we have never been in the red, anywhere. I am retired and my income isn`t that big, dh hs a good income although retired. Is it that? My idea was that we should get the halifax cc and gradually be using that instead of smile, how naive was that
I am cross to say the least. I am not applying for anything else from halifax. Good job that the smile card is active and going strongAre you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Erm, from the credit report saying the statement balance was paid off every month perhaps? Past performance is no indicator of future performance, but as far as actuarial work goes it very much is...0
