Do not use Hastings direct, my husband put in all the correct information into a comparison website and they then said after he had paid for the policy they wanted to see our driving licences. I have an automatic licence and they said although it showed on the comparison website they had not taken that into account and wanted an extra £99 pounds and and extra admin fee of £35 today.....do not use them!0

There is surely a difference between playing around with your job description or your annual mileage or the car value to see what difference it made, and genuinely considering different options to see which suited you at the price?
Excess, whether garaged, which named drivers, business use, etc could be legitimate choices.
Also you might be considering which car to buy, or possible where you were going to move. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

We needed to change our address on 2 policies with them and they only charged an admin fee for one, not sure many other insurance providers would have done the same. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I did something similar, did quotes based on 2 different mileage amounts.
1 was what i thought i would do. The other was what i thought if im busy this year i could potentially do.
In the end i decided on the lower and would let them know if i was going to rocket through it.
They called me up, asked me why. I told them and all was fine. It might be the person you spoke to or you are not getting the full story from your friend?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I did the same thing as you. I was told that I was committing 'fraud'. I told that person that that was rubbish.
As I understand the Fraud Act 2006, if you had tried to use one of the 'invented' sets of data to get your insurance, that would be fraud, but not otherwise.
After my experience with Hastings (posted on this forum) I would advise people to AVOID HASTINGS.
It's OK saving money but if you are involved in a claim, you need assistance. I would always now go with a broker who knows you as a person and who has a reputation (i.e. customers) to lose if they don't help you or mess you around.0 -
I would be another to say avoid Hastings Direct.
I took out a policy several weeks before being due to start. I changed a number of things on the quote (especially the occupation as mine isn't on any insurer's lists and could be defined as several diverse things).
Just after the policy started, I received an email demanding scans of mine (and my named drivers) driving licences within 7 days or the policy would be cancelled. Not a problem for me. But I don't live with my named drivers (they use the car maybe twice a year), who were on holiday at the time with their driving licences. Fortunately they returned on the 6th day, but don't have a scanner. This was at the weekend with only a day left so I had to make a 150-mile round trip to get their licences to scan at my home.
A complete and unnecessary hassle but kept them happy.
Several weeks later, I got a cold call from a Hastings salesperson selling me add-ons. One of the things they said was "your passengers would not be covered if they are injured in your car" which is a complete and utter load of rubbish. They will be covered under the third party section of the policy, regardless of extra cover purchased.0 -
Dummy id involves false name, phone number, house number, no reg or reg out of a photo, slightly different dob.
You get insurance quotes on random people's cars? In light of the fact that the morons at Hastings cancelled the OP's friend's insurance for getting multiple quotes that doesn't sound like a very good idea.0 -

No.
You have misunderstood.
To avoid getting into the OP's friend's situation, do dummy quotes! They cannot be tracked back to you!0 -
Unless you use the same name, computer, IP address, car reg..
Be funny if companies cancelled insurance for playing with the quotes. I have done 57 quotes tonight. Got the premium for a new driver down from £3800 to £1422.38
Seems adding the right family member with the right job and driving history cn save hundreds. Having a car that nobody else would buy also helped.
Unless im using the wrong comparison site, Seems choosing an older car now pushes the premiums up. Anything older than 1999 added a fair chunk to the premiums.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
