How long do searches take?

We are in London, and our solicitor ordered searches today.
How long should all the searches (Council, Water etc) take approximately?
I'd be interested to know the time others had to wait for all the searches to come back. We are keen to exchange as soon as possible having been gazumped twice in the last 6 months...

Depends on the Borough, mine took 3 weeks (Barnet).0

Wow! Well according to the council website they take 1-2 days. But aren't there also other surveys like water board?0

Yes there are several searches to be done, some came back after about a week, but it was 3 weeks before we go them all. I think it was the water/flooding searches that took the longest for us.0

Ask your solicitor. Ours said to allow 3 weeks.0

The solicitor ordered searches on Wed morning this week and had them all back by the Thursday evening, ie. just a day and a half later. Local authority, water and drainage, the lot!
Even better I called the bank for the mortgage on Tuesday, they did the valuation on Wednesday and my solicitor got the mortgage offer today.
Hard to believe but shows how quickly things can move!0
