Printer Recommendations please

My Dad is buying my Mom a printer for Xmas and I have been tasked with finding one!

It needs to be around the £70 mark, with separate colour cartridges and will just be used for basic printing/scanning/copying but not faxing.

Obviously needs to be wireless.

Thanks in advance.

Am I right in saying that the cheaper one is a tri-colour cartridge rather than separates?

Does anyone have any experience of these? I used to have a Canon about 11 years ago with a combined colour cartridge and I used to refill the colours when they ran out, but I know my parents wouldn't be able to do this. So when one colour runs out, do you have to discard the whole cartridge and replace it?

I use an Epson Stylus which is fairly good and reasonable cartridges at various internet suppliers. Good quality and inks last a while.

Only thing I'd say is stear clear of Lexmark

No, they're both 5 cart inkjets.
Yes, with tri-colour carts you have to bin the whole thing when one colour runs out.

I got a HP Photosmart (5520 I think) from Tesco's. Cost about £60 a couple of months ago plus got 1,000 clubcard points worth at least a tenner. Wi-fi connection is easy to set up and use - printer upstairs, PC downstairs and connects fine. Has a black cartridge and 3 seperate colour ones. Does scan, copy, print. I'm very happy with it, and replacement cartirdges are reasonable price - think about £30 for full set of HP ones, or £19 at Tesco, for Tesco compatable.
P.S. I don't work for HP or Tesco, and i'm not on commission!

Brother wireless machines are the best out there

Avoid lexmark and cheap canon from places like pc world/tesco/argos as the cartridges are tied in with those shops only and cost the earth.

Hp, nice machines but are expensive to replace cartridges.

    Also avoid compats for inkjets.

    Don't buy an Epson !

The cyan colour ink cartridge has just run out on my Epson. I urgently want to print a black only letter and it won't let me because "I need to buy more ink" . Seriously, I've just bought two effing black cartridges for it and now they want me to buy something I don't want just to get it working again.

As you can probably tell. I am very annoyed.

Why didn't you set the print to mono only?

I have refillable cartridges on my epson. Clear see through ones so you know how much ink is in them.

The onscreen and computer ink levels dont work anymore though. Says they are full, Then slowly drop until it resets and says they are full again. Whether actually full or empty.
Takes a minute or so to check the levels though. I bought them about 6 years ago for less than £20 and still got ink left in the bottles.
