Hi all,
We're staying here before we fly soon, just a cheap bed for the night. However, we're planning to have dinner that night. I've read mixed reviews about their restaurants, we don't want anything special, but I'm not sure whether the restaurant really is terrible or whether the reviewers are being a bit snobby with what seems to be a Wetherspoon type affair.
Does anyone know if it's really that bad? Is there anywhere nearby that I'm not going to need to remortgage to afford?
Thanks.

If you have a car, the The Waggon Inn - just the other side of Ponteland is OK

Yes we do, thanks very much for the recommendation! I don't think I'm going to be able to avoid paying average £10-12 for a main around this area... guess I need to suck it up

Although not as good as the Waggon (or Highlander) the Badger is only a short walk north of the airport. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186394-d2254498-Reviews-The_Badger-Newcastle_upon_Tyne_Tyne_and_Wear_England.html#REVIEWS0

Hop on the metro at the airport, a 15 min journey will put you in the city centre where you have masses of choice to suit all budgets. Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............0

The Britannia does not get the best reviews - but you can get some decent prices for the Doubletree located at the airport - I can certainly recommend.
If you have have the car, you can pop down to the Toby which is located near the novotel at Kenton Bank which is only a few minutes drive from the Britannia.0 -
Yes Britannia has to be the worst evertravelover0

I'm surprised that Britannia Hotels and Ryanair don't get together to offer holidays, and, of course, there is always the good old Travelodge to fall back on if top quality accomodation is required
'Nor for a gold clock' springs to mind!Filiss0
