Lowell default settled but not updated on original Santander default

Hi there and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere (if so, please point me to that answer!)

Back in 2011 my OH discovered a default on his credit file from an old Abbey National account that he had not updated his address on and owed them £253. By looking through the credit report we found that this debt had been passed to Lowells.

So we did the right thing, called Lowells and paid off the debt, and received a letter to say that they debt was settled and would be marked as so on the credit file.

So fast forward to this year and he is refused credit. I check the file and there is still a default - not Lowell (as that is now showing as settled) but with the original Account

Now this is where I get confused. Shouldn't the original default also show as settled seeing as the debt was paid off? Or should we have contacted Abbey (or Santander as it now is) with a copy of the Lowell letter and asked them to mark it as settled?

The original default date was 30/5/2008, so by my understanding it will come off of his file by 31/05/2014(?). My question is, do we contact santander and ask them to mark it as settled or does it really not matter as there is only 6 months until it comes off his file?

Advice appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Felicity

Depends on whether he is planning to apply for any credit in the next 6months.
But I would write to them and ask them to correct the entry. You could also include a copy of the letter from lowell.
