Need advice about missing jsa appointment

Hi everyone i hope someone can help me im in a bit of a blind panic.
I completely forgot to sign on for Jobseekers today and im terrified about what is going to happen. Ive only been on jobseekers a month and have signed on twice so it is all new to me. I dont really have a excuse. None which the job center will see acceptable. I was there yesterday for a lone parent interview. I had wrote that appointment in my calender but not today. I was in school placement all day, not feeling my best and was late picking up my daughter (my sign on time is 15.55) so just genuinely forgot until i sat to do some job searches and was reminded. Im not looking to get out of anything as it is completely my fault but i dont know how a sanction works or what to expect. So if any one can help i would appreciate it

Do you normally have a work placement on your signing day?
  • Phone up and say you forgot.
i dont know how a sanction works or what to expect.
You will probably find your benefits are stopped for at least three years.

Seriously phone up - on a month and not used to the system you will just get a 'don't be late next time chat'. AND NO YOUR BENEFIT WON'T GET STOPPPED

I was in school placement all day, not feeling my best...

Go to the Jobcentre as soon as you feel better (within 7 days otherwise you will need a medical certificate from the doctor), tell them you were ill and fill in a self-certification sick form.
  • Hi Dunroamin its a placement i do in a school as part of my course. I am training to be a teaching assistant. My placement is always on a tuesday which is my signing on day ., Thats the reason why my appointment with the job center is at 15.55 because i am in school until three and then i have to pick my daughter up at 3.30 then i go to sign on. As i said i was late leaving my placement and i had to get my daughter. The school also phoned me earlier in the day to say my daughter had a rash on her back and needed to get it looked at so i was stressed getting back and then spent a good amount of time trying to get a docs appointment which i couldnt so had to go chemist then by the end of all that i just completely forgot and the job center had closed so couldnt phone them.

Do not risk this, it is highly likely that without good reason, you will be sanctioned.
  • Phone up tomorrow, if you have had a domestic emergency or not feeling well then they may look at good cause and accept this, they will send you a form to fill out called a JSA 28 you need to get this back in straight away, or I think they can fill one out over the phone and email it to the section.
If accepted then you should get payment.
I think you are allowed two sicknesses in a rolling twleve month period, the third will close the claim. and three domestic emergencies, the fourth closes it

Just be honest you were not feeling to good and didnt sign we all have off days
  • Thanks Mikey bach. Im going to phone them first thing or may pop in as the job center is only 5 minutes away. I wasnt well monday when i went in for a lone parent interview i did tell the advisor but she didnt seem to pay any attention. I battled through despite just wanting to curl up in bed but today has just been one of those days. I love the kids in my placement to bits but today 28 kids screaming and fighting over pritstick just shot my head and then trying to get back to sort my daughter out and get a doctors appointment just killed me off. Thanks for the advice everyone.

No, they don't consider getting confused about the dates as a valid reason for missing an appointment - even if you were in the day before. It's not up to your advisor - it's decided by somebody in another office who doesn't know anything about you.. The only thing you can do is go in as soon as possible (tomorrow AM if you can) but don't raise yoiur hopes too much. Even having a job interview isn't a good enough reason if you didn't tell them in advance. The system is really inflexible and doesn't give any disgression to advisors who may know the difference between a skiver and an honest mistake!

You are wrong. If it's a one off there is loads of digression, some people in the Jobcentre have claimed at the Jobcentre and know what it is like. If you can demonstrate you had an interview an advisor would have to be a Pshycho to refer it as it would never be sanctioned.

Only if the person on the other end of the phone doesn't do their job properly
