Purchasing a Chain free that is not chain free

Hello,
Me and my partner went to view a house that was advertised as chain free and even under a promotional weekend for chain free properties. We made an offer at the full asking price which of course was accepted.
We are now in to the 8th week since the offer and have today been told that it was not chain free. Now the buyer of our house has been patient and we have said to him we will have contracts done and dusted by first week of January. However, our house may not be available until end of January and even that is not guarenteed.
Can anyone advise what we should do/who to complain to or if we could get any of our expenses reimbursed due to misrepresentation/selling?
If we had known it was not chain free we would have offered less than the asking price and we would have known the situation and prepared for it.
Thanks for any advice/pearls of wisdom

My oh really wants it and relatives live a few hundred miles away.
In terms of that side of things we can get sorted but do not see why we should be out of pocket by a couple of grand. (We would have offered 2000 less to cover any expenses we had in case of this situation)0 -
You could revise your offer and see what happens.0

Have you had any experience of this? We are currently at the stage whereby we are awaiting the seller to just give the go ahead to their solicitor but they won't until they know their purchase is going through. Every day this goes on is costing us money.0 -
Maybe it was chain free 8 weeks ago but things changed.
When I put on offer on my house it was chain free and my sellers swore they would go into rented but as soon I was committed then they found a house to buy and made me wait another month.0 -

Surely that is their issue and not mine? They should then have to find accommodation for a month or 2 months or however long it is going to take. We acted on good faith and they had initially said that she was moving in with her boyfriend until they had found a place.0
