Oh well...don't forget the fish in the curtain rail thing then if you feel you have no option but to let her do this...and take all the light bulbs and how-to instructions...

Curl one out in the toilet and forget to flush.

I'm reminded of the old saying that in relationships it's the person with the least commitment (or the least to lose) who has the most power. I think it applies here too.
  • Don't give them an inch, tell them take it or leave it. The more you give in the more they will keep taking.

    How much are we talking?

A couple of grand split across five of you isn't too painful. The principle is probably more painful than the cash, but pragmatism is probably a better position to adopt here.

Remind me never to upset you:rotfl:

Adders - I'm assuming that the purchaser trying to pull this stunt is at the bottom of the chain. This is usually the case in these scenarios.

Unfortunately they hold all the cards and they know it.

Sometimes it may be a FTB who has either developed a case of the collywobbles and is having a minor panic attack, sometimes it may be a FTB who has been "advised" by a know it all friend to try it on.

You can call their bluff, or you can try and reach a compromise. Sometimes other people in the chain will also come together to work out a system of reductions which is fair to you all and help you all out of an impasse.

I hope you manage to find a workable solution. It is a throughly horrible and unpleasant (and potentially expensive) situation.

I too would love to see some kind of workable legislation to stop this kind of thing happening.

Is it really that important to move so close to Xmas

What are the people at the top of the chain doing?
In many case they hold the other end to a move

if the people trying it on have nothing to sell are they on any rental deadlines?

tell to put up or shut up if the place is a good price there will be another buyer in the new year, so it will be down to how keen people are to move.
  • There is nothing morally wrong about doing this it is simply a negotiation tactic within the law it's just that you and the rest of the chain somehow feel you were closer to moving and on more firm ground than you actually were. I would suggest that negotiations be held up the chain in which everyone drops their price that way the person with the most to gain I.e. the person at the top gets to take the hit as the rest of you will be no worse of. Otherwise call your purchasers bluff and risk the chain.

Well, you are right about it being within the law. Morals however are personal, there is no absolute. Your morals stink.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Totally agree. Waiting until this late stage in the process to negotiate, when there has been no change in circumstances or knowledge about the property, is akin the blackmail. Certainly not moral.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
