Title says it all. Brake crap on slope. New discs and pads and passed MOT today but still will not hold well on slope. Wifes car and she is not an Amazon. Any ideas to help?

Leave the car in gear when parking on a slope. First if facing uphill, reverse if facing downhill.
Turn the steering wheel so the car will roll towards the kerb should the worst happen.0 -
Sounds like the handbrake cables are seized.
Not sure on a Pug, but the usual system involves 2 or 3 short cables that can be changed individually, and fairly cheaply. They have a steel cable inside a lined sleeve, the lining wears through and the cable partially seizes, enough that it stops normal people applying the handbrake.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Whilst some other models in the PSA range suffered from poor handbrakes, the 207 didn't from the hundreds i've driven.
You've had new rear pads and discs so that's taken those out of the equation (well once they're bedded in), presumably whoever fitted them knew how to wind the adjusters back in properly and made sure all working.
As above, worth checking the cables are moving freely.
Also check the rear calipers are in good order, cleaned of the usual crud that builds up, pistons lubricated under the dust covers with the correct brake grease.
Maybe give it a few hundred miles to bed the new pads to the discs and then check the auto adjusters are auto adjusting.
edit...make sure the handbrake cable is slackened before winding the pistons in, might be worth leaving them a little slack to give the auto adjusters every chance to do their thing for a week or so.0 -
Just said to OH that I've asked on here. You do know my cars a 206cc don't you. Oh Boll***s.
Does this make any difference to the advice given?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Yes it does make a difference the 206 handbrake was never wonderful when brand new, and i delivered thousands of the things.
Depending on engine it might feasably be drum rear brakes, if rear discs the parking brake should be self adjusters within the calipers just as 207, if drum rears its a case of remove drums and see whats to do inside, probably new linings as a minimum (they'll be fun to find the right set), maybe new drums, maybe new wheel cylinders too, oh and beat the self adjuster senseless till it agrees to self adjust.0 -
Disc rear, garage changed discs and pads so should be ok, will give it a while to bed in and see what happens. OH got the old MOT advisories well after she bought the car and every advisory quoted parking brakes as potential problem.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Even back as far as the 405 Pug handbrakes were hopeless, when we loaded 405's we had to hold them on the ramp on the footbrake and get a mate to put a chain or strap on them (unless they happened to be autos which would lock up), if we relied on the handbrake alone (but in gear) the car would follow you down the deck in judders as the engine compression held it only partially.
Sounds like all you can do is let them bed in then adjust up as best you can, 207 parking brake was much better.
Does your OH think we're all bonkers here by the way, mine does..;)0 -
She has her doubts, judging by some on DT she would be right.. Thanks for the assist. If the brakes are so poor how did they ever get let loose onto the general public? At least my Kia has half decent brakes.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
