are these John Lewis adverts a scam?

Hi I keep getting John Lewis emails, which is fine but there is something slightly odd about them so I was wondering if anyone can confirm them one way or the other. The suspicious ones come with long web addresses to click on and have an unsubscribe bit too but the address to click on both start https://em.johnlewis.com The "em" bit looks weird to me, they also give an email John_Lewis@em.johnlewis.com , again it has "em" but when I go to the site manually through a browser there is no "em" to be seen and even the contact addresses don't have "em" in them.

Can anyone confirm one way or the other please?

If its a scam site its perfect to look at. I always check emails and I usually spot scams easily but I'm just not sure on this one. The fact that the address is so long makes me suspicious too.

Any help appreciated.

  • No not a scam.

The EM bit is a subdomain that only the domain owner can setup.

Possibly just a way for JL to keep track of email clickthroughs.

The em is a subdomain of john lewis, probably just setup to handle email. The emails you are receiving are fine, and well done for being cautious.

As above, the "main" domain is immediately to the left of the .co.uk or .com (or whatever) suffix.

So anything.johnlewis.com WILL still be part of johnlewis.com.

^^ Exactly. That URL would be part of the em.com domain.
