  • I agree see if you can put a deposit down your stuff that you're selling will more than cover it :) I have lots of antiques in my house, some handed down but many from charity shops. I think they have more charm and character than MDF versions (although saying that the kids bedrooms are filled with ike@ lol) and they also last much longer! I've got a beautiful chest of drawers in my front room which holds my dvd player and i've had it since i was 8 (and it was already 150 years old by then ... ;) )

I hope Jelly is better soon. The weather is warming up nicely so i'm hoping all these bugs do one soon I for one am fed up of being ill! xx

    Hey Lilty,
Really feel for you with all your family's health issues. I know it means an op to have it inserted but the PICC line is better in the long run for the chemo, less stressful for your mum . I remember my mum had one too, after the first chemo session was a nightmare as they poked around for a vein so many times it made mum (and me- who was meant to be there for support!) cry. I remember she was already so scared and then to have that happen was awful.
Sad when older people need care, having worked and paid taxes to then have to use up all your own savings. My dad is finding that now too - because he has always been careful he now can't get any grants etc because he has a pension and more than £6 K in the bank. He knows people who have just lied about what they have and have had loads of adaptions done to the house for free, and others who have never bothered to save or be careful, again getting everything done for free. The system doesn't seem to work for people who have worked hard and saved for a rainy day:(

The sideboard sounds lovely. I missed a bargain on a facebook page a couple of weeks ago because I just log on now and then, the seller only wanted £50 for this beautiful carve oak chest, it was gone within a minute of posting and had about 50 comments! Go for it:)
    Hugs

Another vote for getting the sideboard too - sounds like a good lifetime piece too.

Good to hear Jelly making an improvement as well.

:o another year wiser...allegedly :rotfl: But a year in which I'm out of debt :j for the first time in a few. I'll celebrate that bit

Good luck for your review tomorrow, not that you need it and just looking at today, it's clear to see why your bosses are spot on saying you've nothing to worry about. You go girl :T

  • Vote from me too.. Definitely get it! You need to treat yourself every now and then. It is the same with Lucky and her blinds. I know how you feel and I had to bite the bullet and get a new skirt for interviews.

Talking of clothes, I look through my wardrobe and they either don't fit, are worn out or I never wear them because I don't like how they look on me. Some of the main reasons why I need to get into selling them!

Lilty, I am sending big big hugs to you and Jelly for sickness and stress and worry. Even when I am not here to post, I am always thinking of you and if you every need to talk or vent or anything, I am just a pm away!

And my Pop went into a home today :( and they want contributions from him towards his room, so they are taking his pension/pension credit and anything else they can get their hands on, leaving my nan with nothing to run their jointly owned house on! So mum super stressed and I am sat here useless.

As your grandfather has gone into a care home him and your Nan will be treated as 2 separate people as they are no longer classed as being in the same household.

The joint claim for pension credit needs to be closed down and new one's opened as single claims.

Your Nan should not have less than £149 per week to live on (unless she has loads of savings).

Unfortunately Social Services do not explain this to families so people end up destitute because they don't realise the rules.

Age Concern have some very good leaflets on what happens when one part of a couple go into a care home.

If you need any help give us a shout (not wishing to tread on INOD's toes who offered first)

    Morning lovely lady x

Sorry to hear all the crappy stuff :( it always seems to come at once doesn't it.

Hope your Mum did ok today, it sounds like you're all under a lot of stress at the moment. I know how hard it is when you're far away from family, the stress and worry is amplified tenfold, but make sure you take care of yourself too ok.

It is awful when your grandparents have to go into a home and you do feel at a bit of a loss.
My Grandad, who I was very close to, had alzheimer's for the last few years of his life. He rapidly went from an intelligent, creative, caring man who could do anything, to someone completely unrecognisable. The day he had to be taken into a care home was horrific for us all, but a necessity for both his own safety and that of my Nan.
Ten years after his death, my Nan had to move into a residential home too, and I can still picture her face when we left after settling her in. :( BUT she went on to live 10 more years in there and they were happy times. She was well cared for, loved the company and was treated like a queen!

The new living arrangements for both your grandparents will soon become routine for them, but maybe in the meantime you can send some paintings from Jelly or pictures of you all to them with a little letter each. It used to cheer my Nan up no end, and even though my Grandad wasn't aware of who we were towards the end he used to clutch those pictures tightly.

Or maybe, like you sent your Mum the bluebells, something for your Pop's new room that will spark a memory for him or makes him think of happy times. :)

As for the pizza, don't beat yourself up girl, as they say, don't sweat the small stuff. :D

PM me if you want someone to rant at. :) xx

    Oh, and buy the sideboard...

My degree was actually in furniture and lighting design, so I frequently lust after furniture. :rotfl:;) Unfortunately my budget does not allow me to purchase the pieces of loveliness I find, but I have been know to go and visit lovely chairs in shops and stroke them lovingly, just to make sure they're still there. :rotfl:

    Chairs are my thing.

I currently have my eye on some lovely oak framed eames style things, but at £90 each there is just no way!

I'm getting carried away. I'll stop now.

Lmao I opened the floodgates for furniture p0rn.:rotfl:

Thank you all so very much. And for the PM's too. I love you all dearly.

INOD, EE your generosity is incredible. Thank you so much for the offers of help and EE for the quick synopsis up there. That has been greatly helpful already. You are both stars and once I am home I will start to sort this out properly.

I just popped on to say:

    I'VE STILL GOT A JOB!!!
...and a pay rise.. and a bonus *cough*

Phew! Back tonight. I am writing PMI recommendations. xx
