My flat is on a website to let.....yet it is *not* to let!

Hi all,

So I received a call from my old estate agent asking if my flat was back on the market. I replied that it was not......and I asked why.

While browsing another estate agents website they saw my flat! To let!

It's using old photos from a couple of years ago but it's defo my flat. I've never heard or used the estate agent in question.

Has anyone else come across estate agents doing this to make it appear as if they have more 'stock' than they really do? Is there a term for this practice?

Going to be an interesting phone call!

Oh, please ask them for a viewing! Then tell us what they say, would love to hear their excuses!

It's just to bump up their portfolio, really. There seems to have been a lot of this recently.

On their website it says 'under offer' so first thing they will say is 'oh sorry offer has been accepted, our website needs updating'

  • Send us the RM link and one of us will do it!
  • Isnt this a common scam? Fate lettings agencies that use old photos of peoples flats to let, for the fate site, they then nick peoples deposits and do a runner. Saw it on a tv documentary.

BBC's Watchdog programme highlighted this recently by exposing a company called Grattan Estates who scam would-be tenants into putting down a deposit on properties that they do not have any rights to. They put random housing stock on their website to make it look like they are genuine bona-fide agents.
Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............

Similar thread was on a couple of weeks ago. Same problem. Can't find it using the search, but you're not alone OP.
