Renting a property in my name only; can the wife be the landlady?

    Ok, coming at this from a different angle, can I get a joint mortgage on this property despite the property being in my name only?
  • Yes, you can add your wifes name to the mortgage, if she is accepted by the lender, its called transfer of equity.
    "Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!

    And if you jointly own the property you would then split the rent HTH.

    I assume her name would need adding to the Title too though?

    The HMRC rule that taxable income must be declared in the same ratio as the legal ownership of the property when the joint owners are married. You can't declare the income on a property you don't own at all.
