Urgently need to raise money for accident victim?

A close family friend had a serious traffic accident on Friday. He is currently in Intensive care with severe spinal injuries at a hospital 40 miles from his famil, who have very little money and are extremely distressed. His friends want to try and raise urgently needed money initially to help with them with travel costs and living expenses but also looking to the longer term. How do we go about this? Is there a way we can gather any immediate donations so his mum can access them? Any advice would be very much appreciated
