Rear end shunt

Do not let Admiral shunt you off to Albany who are a claims management company and have a deserved bad reputation.
If they've sent you to a Honda dealership it already sounds like they've passed you over.0 -

I certainly wouldn't be taking a 'newish' Renault Clio to a Honda dealer for repair.
Did they give any reason for that?
Why not a Renault dealer?0 -
It is very rare for any main dealer to have a proper bodyshop nowadays. They take up too much space, are capital intensive and you don't get the turnover per square foot that you do with a ramp doing dealer services 12 times a day. Either it is a specialist with a bodyshop, or this is a checker who will agree the damage and feed it out to a bodyshop in a nearby industrial estate.0

They will want to use one of their 'approved' repairers as they will not use genuine parts.
In fact, the job of the Insurers Inspector seams to be to bully the repair shop into using parts & paint from the supliers who give them the biggest back-hander.
This is one reason why Volvo, VW & Fiat (amongst others) have issued warnings to owners of their vehicles who have had crash repairs done stating that unles the repairers used genuine parts, they cannot guaruanttee the structural integrity of they vehicle.Never Knowingly Understood.

If we take it somewhere else they wont guarantee to work, apparently. I have checked the floor pan lights etc - no damage. Just a low speed hit which cracked the paint on the bumper, but I will get the insurance to check the cat is not damaged, just in case.
edit: crap. I thought your car was a honda. Insist on taking it to a renault dealer.0 -
Spoke to the bodyshop yesterday and I am taking the car in tomorrow. The guy was pretty good and answered all my questions -they are the nominated repair shop for Admiral in the area. Lets hope it all goes well.0

Have you tried the spare wheel release mechanism? It's a stupid contraption at the best of times, let alone after having had a shunt.0

Good thinking! Yes, a couple of weeks ago my DD called me out to a puncture. imagine me in the dark trying to wrestle with this release mechanism! My fault, as the Dad I should have checked things over and familiarised myself with the spare - which was flat by the way. Luckily, I had taken my pump with me so managed it finally. We've both got breakdown(Autoaid) and I also have AA(free with home insurance) -so ask me why I didn't use them. Answer: stupid, I guess!! will check the spare etc tonight.0
