How long will it take to unpack?

Like Dukesy we bought and moved into a project (the latest in a long line
), a five bed period house that was considered unmortgageable and more than two and a half years on we are about half way through the work and still have about fifty unpacked boxes......we plan to have the house finished within a further 18 months.
We packed and moved ourselves this time - would never want the removal firm to pack - so no worries about unpacking quickly in order to check for items lost in transit. Previously we've unpacked the contents of an extremely stuffed 3500 sq ft house in about a weekMortgage-free for fourteen years!

I last moved 4 years ago but there are still some things in boxes.
My plan is that if I haven't needed to open the boxes by the 5th anniversary of moving then I'm just going to throw them out as the contents can't be that important.0 -
Thanks everyone. I think definitely we will unpack within 7 days; hadn't thought of the removals insurance. We are all different and my OH wouldn't mind boxes around the place but I will feel in transit and not able to relax and enjoy the place. ACG you are right that a lot could change between now and the move but we need an assumption we can work on so we know how much time to work over Christmas for example.0

I was unpacked within 48 hours. Got the keys on the Friday afternoon and moved some stuff (mainly clothes that I'd filled my car with before work in the morning because I could pop them straight in built in wardrobes). Removal men moved furniture on the Saturday morning and we made sure boxes went in the right rooms and I was done unpacking on the Sunday. It was tight though- it was the October weekend when the clocks go back and on the Sunday the in-laws wanted to pop round but had forget to adjust their watches- they rang and asked to come an hour early and were told most definitely not as we were cleaning our rental flat 10 miles away. Also we don't have much clutter (although we have a lot more now) so it was pretty painless0

So long as you can hide the evidence & aren't Desperately Fussed, it can take over a decade.

+1 for sorting structures (wardrobes, bookcases etc) as a priority as otherwise you have heaps. Which degrade into areas.
Which degrade - no, I have to hope you aren't as bad as I was.
