New Clio - Is This The Best Deal I Can Get

my mum is looking for a new small car, she is interested in the clio, the local dealer has an offer on just now sellng the clio 'dynamique' 1.4 with metallic paint for £8750 3dr and £9400 5dr.
i was unsure if this was a good deal or not as we got the usual speil from the salesman, i have checked many of the sites recommended on mse in martins guide, ie brokers and price comparisons and nothing is any cheaper than the deal the dealer is offerng.
so fair enough the dealer has got it just as cheap as any online car sales, he says if we waved £8700 cash in his face they would not accept it as its £8750 and thats the price. so im now thinking do we accept the price as being the price we pay or is it likely we could negotiate something off the price, this would be hard when its not any cheaper online so i have no ammunition. Or is the best i could expect to get is up the road tax to 1yr and a full tank of fuel and possibly a set of mats.
The car spec is 'as is' as they bought a batch so only limited colours are available.
I have never bought a new car, i am not shy about haggling but i am thinking it may be a waste of time plus i dont know what i could realistically expect to get.
I was told the deal is the exact same whether it be with or without a trade in, we were offered £3000 for my mums 3yr old Rover 25 1.4, she just wants to trade it in but i reckon she could get more selling private but she does not want the hassle, i would sell it for her, even if we got £3500 its still better than she would get from the dealer. Then again i could give her 3k for it and sell it for my own profit :rotfl:
so what do you people think, accept the price as the price to pay or is there room for more discount or other free things. do you think the dealer has reduced the price as low as they can in this case.

Buy it.
Those are great prices, if they are from a Renault dealer then they are really really cheap, if they are an import from a non Renault dealer then they are still really cheap.
You can't expect much for the Rover, it is a dead brand and the 25 has jumped up the insurance ratings due to bodyshell part problems. You are wise to get rid of it, get the most you can.
Don't dwell on the deal, avoid silver it is last years colour, find a black one and buy it.
If it is an import no need to worry, I'll tell you why in another post if you need the information.0 -

hi they are from a renault dealer
yes the rover is a dead brand i reckon its owrth a shot at selling it for a bit more, im not that sure how easy they are to sell private, my mum wants to trade it in, i would not like to say sell it private and it does not shift, she has the cash to buy the clio outright so we dont need the money for the rover right away.
i agree silver does not set the car off as well as black, the black one we drove looked really nice and the best colour and made it look more expensive0 -

I also has the top 5 star safety rating and bags of features for you money...0 -

they are new 07 plate, not pre reg or anything, brand new and you are the first owner, i had checked on ukcarbroker as well as others inc autotrader and i cant find it cheaper.
the rover valuation seems about right and the trade in value about right, i dont think ill bother trying to sell it for her it might be a bit risky to shift so trade in may be best.is her heart totally set on a renault?

well we only started looking today, i looked up all the supermini models on the internet and showed her, we got round looking at polo, 207, yaris, fabia then the clio, we were planning to go see the corsa, punto, c3 and jazz but when she seen the clio she just clicked with it and as she's an oap she had enough for one day, i dont think she can be fully bothered looking any further, she has seen something she likes and is hapy to go with it, i would like her to see all the models but this seems a good deal that cant be beaten even on the internet and i think she is happy to go with that.0 -
A couple of weeks ago in Edinburgh I could have got a 3 dr 1.4 Dynamique for £79950
-
Sorry if this seems facetious but that last post was quite pointless, I know where there are lots of things which were cheaper in the past than at current.
Regarding Clios and Puntos, the new Punto is a nice car and at the prices on here is fractionally cheaper. If you were spending close to the rrp for the Clio then sense says go for a Punto but at the price the Clios are its a no brainer, buy a Clio.
The financial logic is also simple, small Renaults have ALWAYS had a better resale value than small Fiats and that is unlikely to change even with the good reviews the Punto has recieved.0 -
