So I started a new job today with the cold (watery eyes, razor blades in the throat, that lovely bunged up feeling could only be me! ha ha!) I still went in because I was determined not to be phoning in sick on the 1st day which lets face would probably have been my last! I didn't let on that I felt not so well.. so bit disturbed by end of day chat, in people's opinion's shouldn't you give a job at least a few days, all they seemed to want to know was how I felt after 6 hours after the big overload of the day, so I was a bit taken aback, perhaps they were just wanting to find out if I'd be in tomorrow! LOL!
Earlier in the day, I managed unwittingly to let cat out of bag thanks to the recruitment agency who told me I'd be working different hours including Saturday's! foot right in it moment! - but I have this in black & white as it formed part of the job ad
so I intend to take it up with the recruitment agency as I genuinely was led to believe I'd work Saturday's with a day off during the week to compensate
I also feel in bit of a hole with this next one; during the interview direct with client, not prior endorsed by the agent, I was told after 4 months there is a chance of being permanent and that my pay would go from £6.50 ph to salaried £15,000 (big draw for taking job) it dawns on me today I have nothing to back that - anyway would a recruitment agency really let you off their books in such a way? does 4 months duration seem a bit suss, it is just the buddie today was trying to explain the commission structure but again I was told by agency it doesn't apply for first month so thinking something of the 12 week rule of temp workers equalling permie workers is effecting that, thinking now seems an odd way to recruit? perhaps not so related I cannot find a website online for the co!! we are specifically to ring the agency if sick etc which I can't see them appreciating once permanent
My plan is to keep job as long as I can, well as long as they will have me, I guess I should have mentioned the cold just felt embarrassed more then anything! anyway least this is off my chest!

I didn't let on that I felt not so well.. (didn't feel so well?)
I was bit disturbed by end of day chat, in people's opinion's (which people?) shouldn't you give a job at least a few days(?)
All they seemed to want to know was how I felt after 6 hours after the big overload (what overload? It was your first day) of the day, so I was a bit taken aback (about what?).
Perhaps they were just wanting to find out if I'd be in tomorrow! LOL! (You're allowed more than 140 characters, please refrain from textspeak - it simply isn't necessary)

We're missing something here. What haven't you told us? What big secret are you keeping from your new employer - what cat? Out of which bag? What the Hell are you talking about?
foot right in it moment! - but I have this in black & white as it formed part of the job ad so I intend to take it up with the recruitment agency as I genuinely was led to believe I'd work Saturday's with a day off during the week to compensate.
You were misinformed about the hours? By the recruitment agency? By the employer?
I also feel in bit of a hole with this next one; during the interview direct with client, not prior endorsed by the agent (did you mean the preliminary, vetting, interview?)
So, the client, not the agency told you?
I was told after 4 months there is a chance of being permanent and that my pay would go from £6.50 ph to salaried £15,000 (big draw for taking job) it dawns on me today I have nothing to back that - anyway would a recruitment agency really let you off their books in such a way?
You may have been suckered into taking the job by the client, but yes, for a large fee, a recruitment agency can place people permanently.
does 4 months duration seem a bit suss? Suss for what? Probation? Temp to perm?
it is just the buddie(that'll be buddy) today was trying to explain the commission structure, but again, I was told by agency it doesn't apply for first month.
You're in Sales?
so (I'm) thinking something of the 12 week rule of temp workers equalling permie workers is effecting that (affecting what?), (I'm) thinking now seems an odd way to recruit?
What? The agency telling you anything to get you in there so they can pick up the commission and the actual employer telling you what they really do and how it actually works? Add a few incompetents crossing a few wires.......happens all the time. Get over it.
perhaps not so related I cannot find a website online for the co!!
Okaaaaaay. Be very wary of that.
we are specifically to ring the agency if sick etc (standard practice when you're a temp) which I can't see them appreciating once permanent (you're new to this temp work lark, aren't you?)
You are employed by the agency. You work for the agency within the agency's client's place of work and take direction from the client's staff. You ring in sick to your employer so that they can warn the client and, perhaps, get someone else in your place. If the client also has a sick policy, follow that as well if you're told to.
If you do become permanent, then you would be given a new permanent contract by your new employer (currently the agency's client) and you would leave the agency. For a fat fee paid to the agency from the client. You would then report to a line manager and follow the rules, regulations and guidance from you new employer's HR Dept. That includes sick reporting.
My plan is to keep (the) job as long as I can, well, as long as they will have me - Yup, that's how work works.
I guess I should have mentioned the cold just felt embarrassed more then anything!
 How does a cold feel embarrassed? Did it say sorry? How much Night Nurse did you have before you started this idiotic thread?
anyway least this is off my chest!
Yeah, at least there's that.:huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
agency work is just for employer. They will tell you anything to get you through them doors to work for them as its all extra money for them. If they said its for 4 months it probably will be, but contracts can become permanent if they need extra staff. Agency work is good to tide you over but isn't brillant for long term work in my opinion as they could turn around one day and say they don't have any work and there isn't much that can be done (mind you same with being employed direct within 2 years of starting, only difference being is that you might have a weeks notice period if employed by the company direct):T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one
