I think it's quite common for cats to give you the cold shoulder when they've been in the cattery
A bit of a sulk seems to be required

My mum and dad's cat is the epitome of a cat who does not give a single toss. She has been into cattery numerous times and seems to actually prefer it there over being at home (even though she is loved and spoilt rotten at home). When they've taken her back home, it's like she's forgotten who they are!

I think your parents' cat and mine must be related - he's still a kitten, was in our local cattery when he was 4 months old, and everyone there completely fell in love with him. He's so laid back about everything he's horizontal :rotfl:.

When we go away FIL comes over to feed the cats and generally check up on them. We have a real scaredy cat who will hide from any visitors. FIL knows he's alive as he's the ginger streak that flies by him to hide in the kitchen whenever the front door opens ;)

Our neighbours also keep an eye out for them whilst we're away.

Do you have someone who can come in and feed them for you?

Oh, and they always "sulk" when we come home, even the three who go to stay at my mum's (the other 2 stay home as they don't like mum's dog)

yes I cat sit for friends as I like cats - normally pop in twice a day or once depending on the cats and feed , play, cuddle and clean out litter tray every now and then. Do you know anyone might do this? You could offer to pay a little, or look after their cats when they go away?
