I am hoping to update my kitchen with new doors ect
We currently have a base unit oven, I have a large full height unit would i be able to house the oven in this cupboard or is there something special about the " appliance housing unit" that can be purchased?
If there is a difference what is it?

Generally oven housings and larder units are very similar in build. The materials used to build them are identical but the difference is in the position of shelves an ledges. Also oven housing units may not have all the backing in place, as cables etc will need to be run from the oven to the power supplies etc.
To use the full heigh unit for this purpose you would need to insert a 20mm shelf at the right heigh to support the oven clear of the door below, so that its position looks sensible with regard to the doors that I assume you will be fitting below and above it.
The shelf can be supported with 2x1 timber running back to front either side. It should be securely fixed in place.
When you take the oven out of the existing unit you'll understand all about the construction.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
HugoSP it sounds like you've saved me a fortune have thanked you for it.
The only other thing is my existing oven is gas (will be removed by appropriate tradesman) but my new oven is electric and will be positioned (in a different part of the kitchen to original) so I will be unable to view the space left by gas oven.
Was looking online at the "oven housing units" and larder unit, it does look like the same thing with the shelves in a different position.
Am I correct in thinking from your post that We need to measure the new oven and decide on appropriate placement then reinforce the surrounding areas to hold the weight of the new oven?
Do you also happen to know if I need to leave a gap above and below the oven for fire safety or is it ok to butt the doors to the top and bottom?Running total for swagbucks - £270 since Jan

1) You need to work out the vertical position of the new oven in relation to the doors (if any) that you will fit in position. Then this will give you the position of the shelf to fit for it. You don't need to reinforce the surrounding areas as they will be OK. Just fit the shelf as I described above using 2x1 battons. The 2" side will be against the inside of the wall of the unit whislt the 1" will provide a ledge for the shelf to sit on.
2) If you go to a kitchen showroom and have a look at the gaps between the doors and oven units this will give you a better idea as to what gap to use.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0
