Thoughts on garage door security?

Hey all.
Touch wood I've never had my garage broken into, but that doesn't mean to say I wouldnt like to make the main up and over garage door more secure.
Ive recently fitted a security light, the garage door has a normal lock on it and also a padbolt with a lock.
But I really still dont feel like its secure enough.
Does anyone have any thoughts on making it more secure?
I'd rather whatever was securing it was not visible from the outside so as not to draw attention.
These garage door bolts look OK

But my door sits in rails (It does slip out of them on occasion just to note) so I'm not sure this is going to be usable.
Any thoughts/what are others using?
Thanks in advance.

I have a Garage Door Defender:

Before I got that I used to wedge a stepladder under a support bracing of the garage door. The man without a signature.0 -
Hey
Cheers for the response. I really dont want something with a padlock on it as padlocks are so easily pickable.
Nice idea about wedging a step ladder though

If you have a back door to the garage then the solution is four dirty great slip bolts on the inside. Two at the top and two at the bottom sliding into the door frame.
Then you need to make the back door very secure too.0 -
I installed a set of Enfield bolts on my girlfriends garage door.
A few weeks ago, all the other garages in her block got broken into except hers. Padbolts and locks were broken off the others, so they proved their worth. Another tip is to screw a piece of angle iron across the top of the door to stop thieves knocking the catch down to get in.(".)0 -

Nice.. Did any of the neighbours point the finger at your girlfriend? :rotfl:0 -
If you are prepared to have to enter/exit via the back door, securing the up and over door from the inside is your best bet, as Iceweasel says. The back door then needs some serioua deadlocks and reinforcing to stop the panels being kicked in.0

95% of security is about making any potential burglars think "sod that it will be ready rob next door" your never going to stop everyone but want to show therm IRS not worth there effort.0 -
Missed the obvious one? Brick it up

Im sure there is a catch though but it eludes me at the moment

Or he may be thinking "there must be something decent in there with all that security".
I'd ensure anything within the garage of value is bolted down rather than make it look like fort Knox from the outside0 -
Most burglers are optuniues druggies there not going to bother trying to get into a clearly secured garage just because there might be something in there. There going to go next door. The ones who rob large amount will make sure there something in there to rob before they do are going to get in either way. A garage door can only be made so secure. Its a sheet of relively thin metal at the end of the day.0
