Stolen Debit Card Details/Money.

I have had money stolen from my account yesterday but I only discovered it this afternoon as I have been in hospital since Monday. I went into the branch and filled out all the forms and had my card canceled ect. The Bank were faxing over the forms to the fraud department people today. I've checked my other accounts at various banks ect and all looks ok.
What I want to know is, is there anything else I should do? Should I close this account down and never use it again? I only use it at the moment for Tax Credit payments so there is never very much money in it anyway.
If they have my card details does this mean they also have my personal details??
Neither myself or my husband have ever experienced this before so sorry if the questions sound a bit dumb.

It really depends on how they got your account details. If it was a simple 'skimming' operation at a petrol station, they probably only have the account information which will now be useless to them.
If they got the information from another source, your personal details may also have been exposed. In this case, I would subscribe to the free Experian 30 day credit report service which will alert you to any unusual activity relating to your identity.
It's probably worth noting the case of a friend who found himself in a similar predicament.
After alerting the bank and closing his account, they continued to accept debits made on his card. This was because the fraudsters had set up continuous credit card authorities on the account which can only be cancelled by the originator.0 -
Will the bank tell me how my details were obtained or will I need to ask once the investigation is finished? The cash seems to have been withdrawn at a bank in Germany.
I'll sign up for the Credit Report now.
Thank you.0 -
Probably not if I'm honest.
The best you can hope for is the return of your money.0 -

Thank you.
If they did tell you how the crooks got hold of your card numbers it would soon get out into the public domain and then you would get copycats making the problem even worse.0
