Housing benifit eligability

Hi all,

I am currently on income support and get HB also. I am single in my mid fifties and live alone. My question is if I were to come off of income support to do some part time work how much would I be able to earn before it effected my HB in any way ?

Thx in advance

  • You will be able to earn £76.70 (£71.70 applicable amount plus £5 earnings disregard).

For every £1 earned above £76.70 your Housing Bneefit will be reduced by 65 pence.

If you work 30 hours or more then an additional £17.10 of your earnings is disregarded.

So if you work under 30 hours the figure is £76.70 before your benefit starts being reduced - if over 30 hours the figure is £93.80 before your housing benefit is reduced.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

On what grounds are you claiming IS?
