Which radiator

Options
My radiators are old so looking for some new ones.

How about these
Horizontal radiators
and Vertical radiators (This is great if short of space)

I am looking from energy efficiency and maintenance perspective .

Any other suggestion would be nice....

  • get the biggest rads, dual fins, dual rad, that you can, as your house will be warmer
  • Are you sure you are not actually looking for a designer look as opposed to energy efficiency? Radiators can be had for way less money than that.

Not keen on designer bit :). If efficiency is not compromised than of course I would like to have the cheaper version.

I hope you mean at the same energy cost! Can you provide any image or link please.

The main trade-off is you lose wall space for furniture.

If you have the typical 4 meter by 4 meter lounge, you can lose half a wall with the horizontal version. If you put it on the wall with the door, that wall is gone. I worked out why they put the radiator under the window. You have to be able to stand close to the window to open it, so you can't put, e.g. a TV stand, there.

This is one reason why underfloor heating is so popular: you get your wall space back.

3,396 BTU's (996 Watts) is very good for a designer radiator.

    I got a Homebase one:

    http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=201070

that outputs 1289 BTUs ⁄ 378W. For about the same price!
    Useless.

You need to be a bit careful when installing designer rads - a lot of them don't put out as much heat as a convention type for the same physical size so you might find that although they look nice you will still be cold. Vertical ones will heat more of the ceiling than the room so you might need two instead of just one

Check out the sizes of the ones that you've got and try to find out what their heat output is especially if they are double panelled or finned. You can then find rads that will put out the same amount of heat or a bit more. You can always turn a rad down a bit if you get too hot but if it's undersized then you can't easily increase it's heat output.
