Mending Windows or Getting New Ones

Hello
I've noticed that a couple of my upstairs windows are no longer closing very closely (they are double glazed but I think quite old)
I'm not sure
a) who to contact to come and mend them - the windows are relatively old and i've no idea who fitted them - not sure what sort of work person to look up in yellow pages or whatever.
or
b) if we decide to replace them - how much it would cost to do about 3 windows, also one of the windows is over a conservatory - which I'm pretty sure would not take anyone's weight - are windows fitted from the inside or would they rig up something with ladders/scaffolding... sounds messy!
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I know from having windows done in a high flat that they can do them from the inside so don't worry too much about access.
There are screws that you can sometimes tighten to improve closing mechanism, but I'm not sure how...someone else will probably be able to tell you.0 -
Thanks - you are right - I hadn't thought of how they replace windows in flats. I think that the screws need repacing in the opening mechanism as you say - but they are at the top and the bottom and I wouldn't have a clue where to start - I would need to be a contortionist and i don;t want to fall out the window!!!

You can get replacement handles from screwfix. If you do a search in this forum there was a thread about it a few weeks (months?
) ago. I guess you do it all from inside.

UPVC maintenance & repair or Double glazing repairs, try searching on Yell.com. Sometimes the gaskets can be replaced or the windows can be adjusted.
If you want to DIY try

Hope this helps0
