Hi all.. can anyone help - the pipe that takes the water to my toilet sistern was leaking so I truned it off at the base of the pie - one of those small 1/2 turn screw jobbies - tried to fix the leak but it seems to be the conection between the plastic part of the sistern and the copper pipe - anyway - turned the water screw back on and nothing!!! Where has the water gone??? I am terrified it is all building up somewhere!! Also, does anyone know about how much a plumber should charge to come out and fix the leak - going to get some quotes tomorrow - off to Mums for loo breaks!!
Thanks as always!!;)

It's a quarter turn, the line (bit you put the screwdriver in) should be vertical. Is it?
Edit: Also if it is the joint between the plastic and copper, did you renew the tape that goes over the thread of the joint? PTFE tape or something like that, should solve the problem easily.0 -
Hi there - Yes - I have had it both vertical and horizontal but the water is not coming through - it was working just fine as I have had it on and then off twice today but now nothing.... thanks so much for replying!!!0

Hi again - I didnt unscrew it - I asked at B&Q and they gave me one of those gun things with a sealant - I will take the thread off and get some PTFE tape - is that the stretchy white stuff - as you can see my plumbing skills (and knoweledge of the correct terms) are a little poor!! Thanks again....0

Thats the stuff, wrap it round the thread about half a dozen times or so then tighten it up. Should sort out your leak.
A Sealant gun???????? My aren't they helpful!!!!
Have you got your water back on again?0 -
Tell me about it!! I think they must have bonus related sealant-gun targets to meet!!
Nope - dont know what on earth has happened to the water - the rest of the house seems to be working fine... do you think I should turn it off at the mains?? - thanks for all your help...0 -
I'm not sure what to do now, are the basin taps still working?
My only thoughts may be that the valve is broken and jammed shut (but I've never heard of this before). Or that something could be blocking the pipe between the valve and the sistern.
If it was me I'd turn it off at the mains then disconnect the valve from the sistern, and have a look in the valve. You should be able to see it openeing and closing when you turn it.
Just remember I'm no plumber0 -
Hi again... I am going to turn it off and have a go now!! I am no plumber either so we are in good company!! The only thing I think of is it may have filled with sealant... I will post what happens... thanks for everything and have a wonderful evening...0

It's just a thought
..is the cistern already full when you turn the isolation valve back on ?If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!
