volume label when formatting?

I have just formatted a Maxtor external hardrive from ft32 to ntfs it has just finished on long format but before I click the start button should I put anything in the volume label bit as I missed that bit out before doing it.

Is the volume label just the name of the drive? so I can just put Maxtor external drive as the volume label?
Thanx

AFAIK the volume label isn't critical to anything. It's actually a name for the partition, not the drive - but that's effectively the same in your case.

If you don't name it now, it's possible to add a name later.

You can call it what you like but you may find that NTFS has a length limit, and may not allow some characters (e.g. I'm not sure if it allows blank spaces).
