A while back, one of our neighbours had some clipboard carrying people come round. Not long after they removed the front of their side extension and put garage doors on, as it would have been originally.
The house went up for sale but no board went up.
They then disappeared off a couple of time in suits (not their usual attire) We thought they may have money troubles as they had been selling quite a bit of gear.
A few months later, their house showed as having sold. But they have not moved out.
I know this sounds like we watch our neighbours all the time and are being really nosey but they just happen to be larger than life characters and you cannot help notice their actions
But we are really curious as to what happened. Did they sell the house to someone but now rent it, or could it be something else?

Perhaps sold but not Completed.outofmoney wrote: »A while back, one of our neighbours had some clipboard carrying people come round. Not long after they removed the front of their side extension and put garage doors on, as it would have been originally.
Property has no planning permmission to convert garage to residential, so they replaced the doors prior to selling. What did they do inside though....?
The house went up for sale but no board went up.Not all agents use boards. Not all sellers allow boards. How do you know it went upfor sale?

wedding? Funeral? Job interview? Who Knows? Why doesit matter???

Lots of people have a clear-out.

Yup!
and are being really nosey
Yup!

You are not just 'noticing' - you are interpreting, assuming, guessing, and..... being nosey!
But we are really curious as to what happened.
Invite them round for coffee and ask them!
Did they sell the house to someone but now rent it,
Possible
or could it be something else?0 -

Yep, it sounds like they sold it to someone and rent it back off them. If they have done that, then it's a bad move IMO. They can boot them out at any time once the initial short term contract is up, they can put the rent up to whatever they want, and the occupiers can't claim housing benefit if they become unemployed, or can't afford the rent. I'm not sure how long they can't claim housing benefit for, but I think it's five years!
It would be the last thing I would do.0 -
This happened to some people down our street (I know this is true because the woman told me personally, I wasn't spying on them!). They had an interest-only mortgage with no vehicle in place to repay it, so when the mortgage came to an end, they still owed most of the money. They sold their house for £65k (about half its market value) and continued to live in it. Then it was found that they could not claim Housing Benefit on it, and they could not afford the rent without it, so they had to move out to another rental.
Through bad planning and lack of foresight (IMHO) they have lost their house.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

You could always knock and ask , being `curious` an allNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Thanks for responses.
In answer to some of the questions. The inside remained the same after the window was replaced by doors. Lack of PP was our guess.
Items sold were almost brand new and mainly the kids last Xmas and Birthday pressies. We got the feeling they had bought more than they could afford.
They may have been going to a wedding/funeral, but it was on more than one occasion and we have seen how they dress for a funeral and it really is not the same.
The property was advertised in the local paper and online. It also shows as sold and the amount for online.
If you knew the family, you would know why we wouldn't actually ask, but as I said simply curious. We don't wish to know all their life details, just wondered under what circumstances a house can sell when the occupants remain.0 -
OP, what a full and exciting life you lead. Some people have TVs to see what is going on in other peoples lives via reality shows. You evidently just use your own lounge wndow for a 'look at life', and then find time to post questions on an internet forum so that random and well meaning strangers can answer questions to which we or you will never know the answer.
To while away the forthcomomg long nights, you may wish to take up a hobby other than 'guess the status of the neighbour'. Maybe reading, paint by numbers, needle point, philately, etc. The choices are endless.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

Nah! It's fascinating to use one's imagination about the neighbours. It might be they're international drug barons fallen on hard times, they might have lost their jobs, maybe they have weird idea about renting being a better use of their resources. Either way, keep posting OP, you'll soon get a reputation as a nosey parker.0 -
Surely one only wears a suit on the way to court?
So there's your answer.0 -
This is very suspicious. Call the police immediately.
